Big Sur Photography Questions Answered
Is there a retainer to reserve my session?+
Yes, there is a 50% non-refundable retainer due upon signing the client agreement. This allows us to decline potential future clients wanting to book your time slot and devote our attention to you, ensuring that your session is everything you want it to be. Ready to reserve your date? →
What happens if it rains?+
Occasional rain is part of Monterey's beauty. If necessary we always try to move your session time to avoid the rain on your scheduled date. In the event we need to reschedule, retainers are honored for one year.
Do I need a permit to propose in Big Sur?+
Some locations within California State Parks — such as Garrapata State Park and Pfeiffer Beach — require a photography permit. As your local Big Sur proposal photographer, we handle all permit logistics and costs on your behalf so you don't have to worry about the paperwork or price. See what's included in our packages →
What is the best time of day to propose in Big Sur?+
Golden hour — roughly 30 minutes to 1 hour before sunset — gives you the most flattering light and the most dramatic coastal backdrop. We'll time your proposal around the best light for your chosen location and season.
Will you stay hidden during the proposal?+
We usually hide in plain sight! We're usually in the nearby area pretending to do our own thing or taking photos of the coastline. It's much more obvious if your significant other sees someone trying to stay hidden. Once the proposal is complete I will approach and introduce myself to begin the portrait session.
Can you set up flowers or decorations for a proposal in Big Sur?+
Absolutely — custom floral setups are one of our specialties. We offer everything from live rose petal pathways to our signature 1,000 Yeses package featuring 1,000+ fresh roses arranged in a heart enclave with LED candles. Every floral setup is designed, delivered, and broken down by us — you just show up. View all proposal packages →
Do you offer proposal video in Big Sur?+
Yes! Our proposal video package includes 4K footage from two angles — a static camera and drone — plus wireless audio that captures exactly what was said. We also offer Cinematic Highlight Films to capture your proposal and the portrait session afterward. See video packages & pricing →
How far in advance should I book a Big Sur proposal photographer?+
We recommend booking at least 2–4 weeks in advance to secure your preferred date and time. For our larger floral setup packages like the 1,000 Yeses or The Enclave, we ask for a minimum of 14 days' notice due to the scale of the arrangement. Check your date availability →
